Transformation Takeaways

I learned the power of 4 & 4’s when I was in high school. Each week, my teacher would drill exercise after exercise with me in this format, and what I developed was the ability to consistently play these various patterns.

While the amount of time and regularity you practice is important, even more important is what you think and do during that time you practice.  I am a huge proponent of logging correct repetitions when you practice. How many times you do it right in practice will determine your chances of doing it correctly in performance when it matters.

4 & 4’s is a very simple, yet powerful format to help you log correct repetitions. In this lessons, I’ll demonstrate some examples, show you what to notice and look for, and discuss ways you can come up with additional variations for your specific needs.

I need help deciding from Innovative Percussion’s Ike Jackson sticks or Promark System Blue DC50’s.  What would you choose?

@kirbyscream

What’s the best way to choose which corps to march in?

@kevinba246

Hey Huei! Just wanna say that I love your videos and as a teacher myself, I’ve learned a lot from you! I was wondering if you can answer this question for me. Do you think learning both battery and front ensemble is the best thing to do when it comes to teaching percussion? Honestly, I’m just a battery guy and stink at mallets, lol! I still feel that I have A LOT to learn when it comes to teaching the battery.
