The community music of the weekend in Rockford, IL was “drumline” as students from various parts of the country attended the 2014 PR Drum Educational Camp. Attendees not only worked with the incredible Julie Davila and Regiment Percussion staff members, but they received some quality one-on-one time with the PR Percussion members themselves!
One of the messages we shared with the campers was that all of our current members started out just like them – beginning young musicians who were enthusiastic about learning from other experienced musicians, became hungry about bettering themselves by attending various summer camps, and working until they achieved their goals. The key to how they eventually made it to PR included the process of sticking with it, and not allowing themselves to become distracted or even worse, quit.
My favorite part of the camp weekend was watching the campers bond with the PR Percussion members, and the instant community of passionate percussionists they created. Super proud of how our PR members worked with and inspired their young friends. Connecting these young learners to more experienced musicians is critical for creating those “A-ha!” moments – priceless!
