WDYLT Readings: What Did You Learn Today?
At the end of my first day of student teaching, my supervising teacher asked me, “So what did you learn today?” To my embarrassment, I wasn’t able to rattle off a list of 20 things, much less one concrete takeaway from an entire day of observing.
After mumbling my way through an inadequate answer, I learned my lesson for the day – really, a lesson of the year. Reflection is such an important step in the learning process, something that can be done through writing, talking, or simply replaying in your mind.
I have since learned that the real “learning” takes place when you recall information, and then connect the dots to something you already know. Here, I share notable lessons from the day in hopes of connecting a few more dots.
