Welcome Grid Book Radio Show Listeners!
If you’re on this page, then it’s because you listened to Grid Book Radio Show #4, and heard my interview with Mark Perrett. Check them out below on SoundCloud.
I hope you enjoyed listening to the music and interview as much as I enjoyed getting to talk with Mark. He’s such a thoughtful and driven educator, I always value our discussions. It’s really such a privilege to exchange ideas with someone who is also so passionate about music, entrepreneurship, pedagogy and life in general!
As you know, the The Grid Book Series really works to cultivate a community of rudimental drummers focused on “Practice like the best. Play like the best.” The idea of building and contributing to a community is something I’m very committed to – percussionists, musicians, and people of the world. I believe the personal connections we make with the time we have – family, friends, and colleagues – among the most important priorities in my life.
As a thank you to The Grid Book Series and all the listeners of GB Radio, I’ve included a free PDF download to help you on your musical journey. In it, you’ll find:
- Huei’s Practice Journal
- Periscope Lesson #1: 4-2-1
- Periscope Lesson #2: Timing is Everything
- Periscope Lesson #3: Hukadiks Paradiddle-diddle Breakdown
On the theme of “Practice like the best. Play like the best.” The Practice Log will help you set goals and targets for you as you plan your practice. Turning your goals from an intangible idea to something tangible by writing them down drastically improves your chances of taking action and making them a reality. You must have a clear and vivid image of what you want to achieve! This is a 2016 edition of the practice log template I used in my formative years, as well as the system I use with my students today.
And for the rudimental drummers out there, the Periscope Lesson Handouts can be a valuable supplement to your existing rudimental knowledge. Teachers, please feel free to copy and share these with your students. If you enjoy the content, subscribe and catch the lesson replays on my YouTube channel, or watch the remaining Season 1 lessons LIVE on Sundays at 7pm CST on Periscope @hueiyuanpan.
Let’s connect. DM through Instagram @hueiyuanpan, and please let me know if I can ever help or if you just want to say, “Hey, I enjoyed the show!”
Have a great day!
