Huei’s GoPro Essentials Resource Page

As I’ve put out more and more video content on my YouTube channel, people have started reaching out to ask how they can get started, what kind of equipment to get, and so forth.  It can all be a little overwhelming – I get it!

Why did I start?

For me, my interest in filming coincided with the process of creating more digital content as well as the birth of our first baby.  Over and over again, I heard from friends how quickly the time would go by, “They grow up so fast!”

It was during one of my lessons when talking about my new venture into fatherhood that my professor shared with me how he filmed and made compilation videos for both of his children each year as they were growing up.  This meant filming on VHS tapes, making notes about the cuts, and then working with an editor to edit the footage together…whoa!

To hear him talk about how much work it took, but just how priceless these home videos are for his kids and family, really inspired me to capture this special time in our lives.  Technology is incredible, and it has never been easier to create, edit, and share the moments in our lives.

How do I start?

In the past year, I’ve made countless short home movies, as well as a number of video lesson series and vlogs.  The number one question I get is, “How do I start?”  The answer is – you just start!  I found myself coming up with excuses like, “I’ll start when I get this piece of equipment” or “I need this in order to shoot that.”  Actually, you really don’t, and there’s a good chance you already have everything you need.

You can start shooting with your smart phone, and start editing right away.  Instead of waiting to save up enough for a piece of equipment, just get started, and that will motivate you to create more, and get the next piece of gear to improve your level of production. The only limiting factor is your decision to take action. Take the ideas you have in your head and bring them to life through execution.

I currently do the majority of my shooting on a GoPro Hero 4 Black.  For those interested in getting started, I put together a GoPro Resource Page of how you can get started, what I use, and what additional accessories I’ve collected as I’ve started filming more and more.  You can check it out by visiting hueiyuanpan.com/gopro.
