If you feel overwhelmed, discouraged that you don’t know what you’re doing or that it’s just not good enough, know that’s normal.
Several questions this week coming in about upcoming auditions, and even some colleagues asking:
“What do I do when I get overwhelmed?”
My answer: All I can do is try my best. The moment I catch myself fixating on something outside my control, I redirect my attention to what I can control.
6th grade band picture day. I use to be embarrassed about this picture. I thought I was such a nerd!
So much so, I even took it down at one point. I recently found it, and am proud to see where it all started for me.
Eventually you’ll reach a point where you can look back and see all the progress you’ve made. Also, turns out it’s cool to be a nerd.
All I can do is try my best. The moment I catch myself fixating on something outside my control, I redirect my attention to what I can control.
In the meantime, just try your best, and focus on what you can control!
ACTION
- Ask yourself, “What is currently weighing me down – causing doubt or anxiety?”
- Write it down. Just the first two or three things – make a list.
- Write down a corresponding action. Something within your control, a first step towards moving in a positive direction.
- Remind yourself this is normal. Take action, and keep moving the needle forward.
